Every year, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are killed, bludgeoned using clubs, their skins then torn off their bodies, often while they are still alive, and then left to rot on the ice.
Many of these seals are less than 3 weeks old.
Last year, over 300,000 seals were killed, many of them were less than 3 weeks old, they had never eaten solid food, or even had their first swim. Of course, they were easy targets.
The seal slaughter is the largest slaughter of marine animals in the world.
Despite bans on fur by both the US and the EU, the Canadian government still allows (and funds) this barbaric practice.
However, there is hope. After Russia, Canada's biggest fur-trading partner, banned seal fur imports, there is no longer a market for the cruel product. A liberal Canadian Senator Mac Harb has introduced a bill in Canada that would end the seal slaughter. The bill, however, has yet to be passed, but the debate is still ongoing.
